I am an independent artist, no staff, no helpers, no middleman, just me in my basement creating stuff, trying to make affordable art that someone will notice. Why? I really don't know, only that I'm compelled to and it's the only work l've done that gives me a sense of accomplishment. I could go on artsplaining all the isms that influence my work, but no, I won't do that. Just see for yourself.

ON GOING BLOG
As an older artist i've experienced a lot of ups and downs in my journey as an artist. I've had periods of focus and at times, in fact, most of the time, focusing on other things, things that really matter, like family, kids, jobs, relationships. Its a balancing act for sure. Sometimes people ask if im a full time artist, implying if you aren't, you are not really serious about it. I believe most artists are serious , they just haven't had the opportunities to excel or time or focus to reach their potential. For me, its difficult to not be creative, I feel compelled to create. There is this tug in my chest that I don't understand. This impulse does not always result in art, more ofen than not it results in a remodeling project or creatively fixing something, glueing broken things back together, putting in a patio in my back yard, that kind of thing. Those all stem from the same creative reservoir.
For those who want to go deeper into what this is all about, and I don't blame you for avoiding this page instead of listening to an artist blather on about the important work they are doing and the causes they support. Those things can change from day to day and don't last. That is not what this is about. It's more about the nature of art itself.
Lets go back. Children, pretty much right out of the box are creating and exploring this new world they' ve been forced into. They have no inhibitions in drawing wild representations of the world around them, it comes naturally. Of course in time they may learn better technique if they are inclined to, and may go on to be quite good at representation and judged accordingly, but the act of being creative seems like something we are born with, but over time we tend to forget. We lose touch with the child in us. The caveat to this is I do believe some people may be more inclined to tune into their creative impulses than others, thus we have artists and others in any creative field. People who actively engage with that creative tug.
Because i'm a visual artist I'll be coming from that context, but some of this may be applied to other creative disciplines as well.
To be clear, all of this can be up for debate. Art is a slippery subject. My only authority is that I've been doing it a long time and over that time have come to some conclusions. Not rules, not laws, just my own thoughts on what this thing we call ART really is.
In it's most basic sense, art exists in time and space. In other words
art is something we experience with our senses, therefore it exists in our world as some sort of tangible object. This may not set well with conceptual artists that believe art is essentially an idea, but in most cases even conceptual art, as an idea, exists, in some way in the real world. If a policeman stops a truck and asks the driver whats in the back of the truck, and he says I'm carrying a load of art, he's describing objects, not ideas or concepts. This idea begins to degrade when talking about digital art or NFT's that can exist solely in a virtual world, so there is that. Hmmmmm.
